The Certificate of Medical Necessity (CMN) requirement for Hospital Beds and Accessories was removed as of January 1, 2007. This change places more emphasis on the need for well documented medical necessity information to ensure Medicare coverage in regards to a hospital beds and/or accessories. Suppliers are reliant upon the physician community to provide detailed documentation to support medical necessity.

On the lower end of the spectrum, basic hydraulic hospital beds can cost around $1,500 to $3,000. These beds typically offer essential adjustments and basic features, making them suitable for general medical wards. However, for more specialized units, such as intensive care or rehabilitation, hospitals may need to invest in high-end hydraulic beds that can range from $5,000 to $15,000 or even higher, depending on the technology and features they provide.
